Did you know that at a cellular level humans benefit from green time – from being with nature, letting our control lessen and allowing curiosity take over.

If you love spending time in nature, are looking to try something a bit different, or wanting to be more mindful in your every day life, this introduction to nature journaling workshop may be for you (even if think you cannot draw and do not know the names of plants or flowers!).

Nature journaling is about slowing down, spending time observing something in nature and then capturing those observations on your page – by writing or drawing or both. It can be as creative, as science-focused or as personal as you choose. It’s up to you. Nature Journaling is all about observing and enjoying nature and what it opens up for you.

What will we cover?

In this hands-on class we will:

  • Begin with a guided sensory exploration of some nature items (maybe a flower, a leaf, a gum nut)
  • We then turn to capturing nature on the page – through sketching and writing
  • Explore things about nature you are interested in or inspired by
  • Work step-by-step with easy to follow instructions that you can tailor to suit you
  • Learn the different components of a nature journal page: colour, texture, words, reflections
  • Practice some easy techniques to be confident to do this anywhere
  • Use a variety of accessible art mediums
  • Complete a nature journal page focusing on some nature items of your choosing in class
